Long and Longer

Ralph Salisbury

It doesn't even get away,
The Big Fish, but -

Year after year of snow's
Melting and plunging toward ocean -

It swims deep
And deeper, as I cast, and casts
Into depths, among shadows, a shadow I
See always and
Always downstream from
My long and longer - as the day
Grows shorter - own.
