Err to Narrow

Nothing to do today, like any
other day     Everybody's mother
writing her current

events report—not really age
appropriate materiel
Not even allowed

off the block, watching the boys
walk down in scream masks

and cameras to Burbank
and small by Locust

Sometimes it's enough
for girls to count     how many flags
on passing cars' antennas

else we might sneak
off to the lumberyard, refine
the schoolyard dumpster dive

a pocket full     blue eyes
for something to talk about

whose retainer     whose condom
whose half-full
soda     whose action figure

How many     gum wads
while waiting for them
to come back

Could say we stayed     on our block
we never left
